The Nilgiris, ancient mountains, houses one of the most unique ecosystems of India. It lends its name to the first ever biosphere reserve to be declared for India by the Man and Biosphere Reserve Program of the UNESCO. The Nilgiris belongs to the Western Ghat chain of mountains – a global biodiversity hotspot. The Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve is a bio diverse cultural heritage that needs to be celebrated. A biodiversity festival is being organised on the 10th of October 2009 at the Nehru Park, Kotagiri. The festival will provide an opportunity to showcase the various aspects of biodiversity of this region.
