Sumithra K- People and Nature Collectives
Gadhika is a tribal heritage art festival jointly organized every year by the Government of Kerala and KIRTADS (Kerala Institute for Research, Training, and Development Studies of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes). For the 2025 edition of Gadhika, held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Ernakulam district, the Gothra Community Foundation from Nilambur was selected to participate.
As part of the event, the GOTHRA group, trained by KIRTADS and Keystone, was allotted two stalls—one to showcase their traditional tribal foods and another to market forest-based products. The participation aimed to introduce the traditional food culture of Nilambur’s tribal communities, raise funds for the activities of the Gothra Society, and build connections with similar organizations and individuals.
Traditional delicacies such as wild tubers, kanthari chammanthi (bird’s eye chili chutney), ragi kumbilappam (finger millet steamed cake), country egg masala, and Wayanadan Thondi rice porridge were featured at the heritage food stall. The food section was led by GOTHRA Society President Mr. Gopi and members Vijayan Palakkayam, Suresh Pulimunda, Syamjith Palakkayam, Geetha Muthupoyil, Ashwathi G.V., and Sumithra Pattakkarimbu.
At the marketing stall, pickles made from vazha kanni (banana plant sucker ), vadupuli (wild lemon), kannimanga (tender mango), along with forest products such as kodampuli (cambodge) and kunthirikkam (frankincense) collected by members, were sold. The operations of the marketing stall were supervised by Amal, a member of the gothra society.
With support from Keystone Foundation, the group continues its efforts to strengthen the livelihood opportunities of the tribal communities in the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Products from Aadimalai, a tribal enterprise based in Kotagiri—such as honey, beeswax soaps, cane sugar powder, and pepper—were also marketed through the stall.
To put into practice the idea of collaborating with other community foundations in Nilambur, Gothra partnered with Ganthe, an enterprise of the Cholanaikkan community working in Mancheeri, Karulai Panchayat. Through the stall allotted to Gothra, Ganthe Society—operating under the Kudumbashree Special Tribal Project—was able to bring their forest produce to the market.
Opportunities like these festivals help the group use such platforms for fundraising, promote self-employment among women, bring products directly to consumers, and establish valuable connections with officials, ministers, and similar institutions visiting the stalls—relationships that can be beneficial in the future.

കേരള സർക്കാരും കിർടാഡ്സ് വകുപ്പും സംയുക്തമായി വർഷംതോറും സങ്കടിപ്പിക്കുന്ന ഗോത്ര പൈത്രക കലാമേളയാണ് ഗദ്ദിക.
എറണാകുളം ജില്ലയിലെ ജാവഹർലാൽ നെഹ്റു സ്റ്റേഡിയത്തിൽ വെച്ച് നടത്തിയ ഗദ്ദിക 2025 പരിപാടിയിൽ പങ്കെടുക്കുവാൻ ഗോത്ര കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റി ഫൗണ്ടേഷനേയും തിരഞ്ഞെടുത്തു. കിർടാഡ്സ് വകുപ്പിന്റെ പരിശീലനം നേടിയ ഗോത്രയുടെ തനതു ഭക്ഷ്യ ഗ്രൂപ്പിനു ഒരു സ്റ്റാളും മറ്റൊന്ന് ഗ്രൂപ്പിന്റെ വന വിഭവ ഉത്പന്നങ്ങൾ വിപണനം നടത്തുന്നതിനും ലഭിച്ചു. നിലമ്പൂരിലെ ഗോത്ര സമുദായങ്ങളുടെ പരമ്പരാഗത ഭക്ഷ്യ വിഭവങ്ങളെ പരിചയ പെടുത്തൽ, ഗോത്ര സൊസൈറ്റിയുടെ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾക്കായുള്ള ഫണ്ട് കണ്ടെത്തൽ, മറ്റു സമാന വ്യക്തികൾ, സ്ഥാപനങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങിയവരുമായുള്ള ബന്ധം സ്ഥാപിക്കൽ തുടങ്ങിയ ലക്ഷ്യങ്ങൾ മുന്നിൽ കണ്ടുകൊണ്ടാണ് ഇത്തവണ പരിപാടിയുടെ ഭാഗമായത്. തനത് ഭക്ഷ്യ വിഭവങ്ങളായ കാട്ടു കിഴങ്ങുകളും, കാന്താരി ചമ്മന്തി, റാഗി കുമ്പിളപ്പം, നാടൻ മുട്ട മസാല, പരമ്പരാഗത നെല്ലിനമായ വയനാടൻ തൊണ്ടി ഉപയോഗിച്ചുള്ള കഞ്ഞി മുതലായവയായിരുന്നു പാരമ്പര്യ ഭക്ഷണശാലയിലൂടെ വിപണിയിലെത്തിച്ചത്. ഗോത്ര സൊസൈറ്റി പ്രസിഡന്റ് ശ്രീ. ഗോപി, അംഗങ്ങൾ ആയ വിജയൻപാലക്കയം, സുരേഷ് പുലിമുണ്ട, ശ്യംജിത്ത് പാലക്കയം, ഗീത മുതുപൊയിൽ, അശ്വതി ജി വി, സുമിത്ര പാട്ടക്കരിമ്പ് എന്നിവർ ഭക്ഷ്യശാലയുടെ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾക്ക് നേതൃത്വം നൽകി. വിപണന സ്റ്റാളിൽ ഗോത്ര സൊസൈറ്റിയിലെ സ്ത്രീ കൂട്ടായ്മ തയ്യാറാക്കിയ വാഴ കന്ന്, വടുപുളി, കണ്ണിമാങ്ങ തുടങ്ങിയവയുടെ അച്ചാറുകളും, മറ്റു അംഗങ്ങലൂടെ സംഭരിച്ച കൊടംപുളി, കുന്തിരിക്കം തുടങ്ങിയ വന ഉത്പന്നങ്ങളും വിപണിയിൽ എത്തിച്ചു. വിപണന സ്റ്റാളിന്റെ പ്രവർത്തനങ്ങൾ ഗോത്ര അംഗമായ അമലിന്റെ മേൽനോട്ടത്തിൽ നടന്നു.
നീലഗിരി ബയോസ്ഫിയർ റിസർവിലെ ഗോത്ര സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ ഉപജീവനമാർഗം ശക്തി പ്പെടുത്തുക എന്ന ലക്ഷ്യത്തോടെ കീസ്റ്റോൺ ഫൗണ്ടേഷന്റെ സഹായത്തിൽ ആണ് സംഘത്തിന്റെ പ്രവർത്തനം. കൂടാതെ കോത്തഗിരി ആസ്ഥാനമായി പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന ആദിവാസി കമ്പനിയായ ആദിമലൈ സ്ഥാപനത്തിന്റെ തേൻ, തേൻ മെഴുക് കൊണ്ട് നിർമ്മിച്ച സോപ്പുകളും, ചീനിക്ക പൊടി, കുരുമുളക്, തുടങ്ങിയ ഉത്പന്നങ്ങളും സ്റ്റാളിലൂടെ വിപണിയിൽ എത്തിച്ചു.
നിലമ്പൂരിലെ മറ്റു കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റി ഫൗണ്ടേഷ നുകളുമായി കൂടിച്ചേർന്നു പ്രവർത്തിക്കുക എന്ന ആശയം പ്രാവർത്തികമാക്കുവാൻ കരുളായി പഞ്ചായത്തിലെ മാഞ്ചിരിയിൽ പ്രവർത്തിക്കുന്ന ചോലനായ്ക്ക വിഭാഗത്തിന്റെ സ്ഥാപനമായ ‘ഗന്തെ’ യുമായി ഗോത്ര സഹകരിച്ചു പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു. ഗോത്രയ്ക്ക് ലഭിച്ച സ്റ്റാളിലൂടെ കുടുംബശ്രീയുടെ സ്പെഷ്യൽ ട്രൈബൽ പദ്ധതിയിലൂടെ പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു വരുന്ന ചോലനായ്ക്കൻ സമുദായത്തിന്റെ ഗന്തേ സോസൈറ്റിക്ക് അവരുടെ വന ഉത്പന്നങ്ങൾ വിപണിയിൽ എത്തിക്കുവാനും ഗോത്രയിലൂടെ സാധിച്ചു.
മേളകളിലൂടെ ലഭിക്കുന്ന ഈ അവസരങ്ങൾ ഒരു ‘ഫണ്ട് റൈസിങ്’ പരിപാടി ആയി ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തുവാനും, വനിതകളിൽ സ്വയം തൊഴിൽ വർധിപ്പിക്കുവാനും, നേരിട്ട് ഉത്പന്നങ്ങൾ വിപണിയിൽ എത്തിക്കുവാനും, മേളയിൽ സ്റ്റാളുകൾ സന്ദർശിക്കുന്ന വിവിധ ഉദ്യോഗസ്ഥർ, മന്ത്രിമാർ, മറ്റു സമാന സ്ഥാപനങ്ങൾ തുടങ്ങിയവരുമായി ബന്ധങ്ങൾ സൃഷ്ടിക്കുവാനും ഭാവിയിൽ അവ പ്രയോജനപ്പെടുത്തുവനും സഹായിക്കുന്നു.
