A Regional Community Radio by the People
On 11th March 2021, Kwol Radio – (A community radio service) completed one year of broadcasting. Based in one of our working regions named Aracode, this community radio station has been useful in sharing regional information, traditional folk stories, and other community-related knowledge.
To mark this milestone, we organized a celebration at a village called Garikyur which is located in the same region. The event took place towards the evening ensuring that people of all ages and from the close by villages would partake in it. While many people came forward to share their impressions of the radio over the year, many elders shared their joy of seeing youngsters from the region showing interest to learn about their culture through the radio.
Since its setup, youth from the region has been at the forefront in recording stories and other information for broadcast. Though most of the traditional folk stories were collected by interacting with the elders from their villages, other broadcast programmes were done by young children and other members of the community.
For more than a year now, Kwol radio has been a source of amusement and leisure. Many of them are gradually coming forward to contribute after hearing their peers over the radio. Our team continues to assist them with tech solutions and to make the broadcast more interactive.
