World Food Day 2025, celebrated on October 16, is an important global observance dedicated to raising awareness about hunger, malnutrition, and the importance of sustainable food systems. This year’s theme, “Building Climate-Resilient Agriculture and Reducing Food Waste,” urges individuals, communities, and nations to rethink the way food is produced, distributed, and consumed. On this day, we honor farmers for their contribution to food security and innovative agricultural techniques such as organic farming, hydroponics, and water-saving irrigation are showcased. Community cooking programs featuring local and traditional dishes highlight the importance of preserving cultural food heritage.
We celebrated World Food Day at the Ellumandam Eco Friends Nattarivu Padana Kendram in collaboration with Edavaka Krishi Bhavan, Thirunelli Agri Producing Company, and M. S. S. R. F. The program was presided over by P. J. Manuel, Director of Nattarivu Padana Kendram. The program was opened by Justin Baby, who is the President of Mananthavady Block Panchayat. Sukumaranunni held a lecture on the subject of ‘What constitutes food and the significance of food’, while P. J. Manuel held a lecture on the subject of ‘Non-toxic food production’. We also conducted a discussion regarding the project ‘My kitchen garden for me and my village’, along with a seed exchange.
World Food Day encourages people to avoid food wastage, support local farmers, and choose nutritious, eco-friendly diets. It reminds us that achieving a hunger-free world is not just the responsibility of governments but of every individual. By making mindful choices and supporting sustainable practices, we can ensure that everyone has access to safe, affordable, and nutritious food, both today, and in the future.
