The booklet named ‘Habitat Rights of PVTG and Pre-Agricultural communities’, written by Keystone Foundation’s K. G Ramachandran, was officially published by the Hon. District Collector of Wayanad Dr. Renu Raj IAS this month. The booklet is intended to provide basic awareness on the habitat rights of PVTG and Pre-agricultural communities to be recognised in accordance with the Forest Rights Act.
The booklet includes the 3 stories on Habitat Rights:
- Story of Baiga PVTG, Baigachak, Samnapur, Madhya Pradesh
- Stories of Kadar PVTG, Vazhachal, Kerala,
- Stories of Bhariya PVTG, Patalkot, Madhya Pradesh
The state governments and district level committees are primarily responsible to take the initiative to strengthen the traditional institutions and Grama Sabhas so as to ensure the habitat rights of these most vulnerable populations.
