மிகவும் எதிர்பார்ப்ப்போடு காத்திருந்த பயிலரங்கம் நடத்தப்படும் நாள் வந்தது. Bhavya அவர்கள் ஏற்கனவே இப்பயிலரங்கம் பற்றி கூறியிருந்தார். எவ்விதமான activities இருக்குமோ resource person எங்குஇருந்து வருவார்கள் என்ற எதிர்பார்ப்போடு 9:15 மணிக்கே Keystone வந்துவிட்டேன் .
அங்கு ஏற்கனவே வயநாடு, நிலம்பூர், கர்நாடக போன்ற இடங்களிலிருந்து climate educators வந்திருந்தனர். அவர்களோடு சிறிது நேரம் பேசிகொண்டிருந்தேன் 9:30 மணிக்கு Bhavya அவர்கள் வந்தார்கள். வெளியில் இருந்து யாராவது resource person வருவார்களா என எதிர்பார்த்து காத்திருந்தபோது Bhavya அவர்களே ஒரு சிறிய விளையாட்டின் மூலம் நமது workshop ஆரம்பிக்கலாமா எனக் கூறி ஆரம்பித்தார்கள். நான் ஏற்கனவே Bhavya அவர்களோடு workshop கலந்துக் கொண்டதில்லை . எல்லோரையும் முதுகுப்புறமாக அமரவைத்து Josmi அவர்கள் ஒரு படத்தின் மாதிரியை விளக்கிச்சொன்னார். முடிவில் ஒவொருவரும் வித்தியாசமான ஒரு படத்தை வரைந்த்திருந்தோம். இதில் நாம் எதிர்பார்த்த ஒரு கருத்து எல்லோரிடமும் ஒரே மாதிரியான பின்னூட்டம் தரும் என்ன நினைப்பது சரியாகாது என்ன உணர்ந்தேன்
மேலும் புதிய பாடத்திட்டம் எவ்வாறாக அமைக்கலாம் என்பதை பற்றி எங்களது கருத்துக்கள் கேட்டறிந்த விதமும், கடந்த ஆறு மாத காளிங்களில் C.S.S வகுப்புகளில் ஏற்பட்ட சவால்களை அறிந்த விதத்திலும் quiz program மூலம் மாணவர்களை எவ்வாறு அணுகலாம் என்ன விளிகிய விதமும் எதிர்கால C.S.S வகுப்புகளை மிக சிறப்பாக மாணவர்களிடம் எடுத்து சொல்ல இயலும் என்பதை அறிந்தேன்
ஒரு செயலை நடைமுறைப் படுத்தும்போது மக்கள் அல்லது மாணவர்களின் கன்னோடம் எவ்வாறு இருக்கிறது என்பதை Roleplay மூலம் உணர்த்தியது மிகவும் ஆட்சிரியமாய் இருந்தது .
இரண்டாம் நாள் Suhirtha (SeasonWatch) அவர்கள் . Tree phenology பற்றி செயல்முறை விளக்கம் அளித்தது ஏதோ செடி வளர்கிறது மரமாகிறாது , காய்கிறது என்றிருந்த என்னக்கு ஒரு மரத்தை உற்று நோக்கும் எண்ணத்தை உருவாக்கியது. இதன் மூலம் ஒரு மரம் தளிர்விடுதல் ஆரம்பித்து உதிரும் நிலை வரை கண்காணிக்கும் எண்ணத்தையும் அதை சார்ந்து வாழும் உயிரினங்களின் வாழ்வு முறைகளையும் அறிய எதுவாக இருந்தது .Flashcard மூலம் செடிகளின் வளர்ச்சிக்கு சதகம் மற்றும் பாதகமான அமைப்பினை விலகியது மாணவர்களுக்கு சுலபமாக எடுத்துச்சொல்ல எதுவாக இருக்கும் . இவ்வாறாக இ workshop மிகவும் பயனாகவும் சிறப்பாகவும் இருந்தது.
After a long wait, it was time for the two-day Climate Smart School workshop. Our programme Coordinator Bhavya had invited us, and this was my first workshop with her. The first day was dedicated to planning curricula for our schools, and the second day would be spent learning about tree phenology. I arrived at the Keystone campus at 9.15 a.m. Climate educators from Nilambur, Wayanad and Karnataka were already there. I was talking with them for some time until Bhavya arrived. I wondered if any resource persons would join us. Bhavya started the workshop with a game. Instructing us to sit facing the wall, we were asked to draw a picture based on a description from Josmi. In the end, all of us drew different pictures. Through this I understood it’s not always possible for all to have the same thoughts or perspectives.
The workshop officially began with a discussion on the curriculum taught in our partner schools. We shared our thoughts on what we believe could benefit the students in upcoming lessons. We also openly discussed the challenges that we faced during the last six months of work in Climate Smart Schools. I recalled that quizzing the students on their learnings helped me understand better how to approach the students and improve their future classes. It was enlightening to see the difference when there was a illustration or a role play, in how students had different views when you brought a theory to life.
On Day 2, Suhirtha from SeasonWatch, introduced us to the concept of tree phenology. Before the session, I used to think of a tree quite simply, only going as far as observing that it may be flowering or fruiting. Now I see them differently, I remember to watch the tree more intently, more interesting in observing its lifecycle from sapling to until its leaves fall. I notice the living creatures that make the tree their home and way of life. I think using flash cards to explain the process of the growth of a plant will be easier for the students’ memory retention. Overall, I found the workshop very useful.
