WHO defines health as “a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity”, and Mental well-being becomes the pathway to achieve that.

At Keystone Foundation, our focus on preventive health mandates Mental health to be in the forefront for our work with the communities. Apart from our holistic approaches, people with mental illness in our working areas have been in our radar and particularly this month we are trying to add some colour, literally!

IN NILAMBUR

A start-off to the Mental Health interventions in the Nilambur region with a focus on the upper and lowermost ends of the preventive health strategy pyramid. At the preliminary level, the emphasis is on Mental health promotion as one end, covers a larger population whereas the other is treatment for a specific group of individuals who currently have a diagnosable disorder that is intended to cure.

A 12-hour training program on mental health promotion attempts to provide a socio-cultural-economic interpretation of Mental Health and its significance, encouraging the communal harmony and cultural practices that act as a protective factor to prevent the onset and reducing the risk factor of possible mental health conditions was held at the Keystone resource center, Nilambur on 9th and 10th of May, 2022. 7 Community Health workers representing 21 villages from three panchayats (Chaliyar, Karulai, Pothukkallu) participated in the program.
