Art is the most tacit form of expression that influences even the most common person, the more they engage with it. With this in mind, our team working with urban slum communities in the Coimbatore district has constantly explored such mediums to inform people about the significance of good hygiene to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.

In the past, we collaborated with local artists to make art on community toilet walls on Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) practices envisaging that people would maintain and use these setups that are often dilapidated.

In September, we began a new art initiative by painting the walls of four local government schools located close to few slum communities we work within the District. Paintings demonstrating WASH messages with attractive cartoon concepts have been drawn to call the attention of children and their elders who go past it every day.

For around three weeks, local artists were guided by our staff who pitched in ideas for the concept. As in the past, we hope these art murals could encourage people to pay heed to good hygiene practices and inculcate the same with their child.
