The tireless work done by our field centre in Nilambur, Kerala, to improve community health in the region was recently lauded. The Malappuram District Tuberculosis Cell in collaboration with Keystone’s Community Wellbeing programme, has been providing nutrition kits and aiding in setting up kitchen gardens as part of a preventive healthcare strategy to reduce the risk of contracting the disease through diet. This is especially crucial in a region where many families do not have the resources to travel long distances to a hospital where care may be unaffordable. It is also beneficial to tuberculosis patients who are members of Indigenous communities. The collaboration has been active for a year.
These interventions have been observed to provide great relief to patients and their families from marginalised communities. The impact made by Keystone and our partnership was recognised with the Nikshay Mitra Award 2023 on September 13, by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (Government of India) under the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan. The Nilambur team proudly continues our efforts in preventive healthcare, and hopes to help eliminate tuberculosis from our country.
