Radio Kotagiri 90.4MHz is proud to announce that they have received an award in the Government of India’s Ministry of Information and Broadcasting 10th annual National Community Radio Awards, winning second place in the category of Promoting Local Culture. The Radio Kotagiri program recognized for this award was “En Makkaludan Oru Payanam“, or “A Journey with my People”. The Promoting Local Culture Awards serves to recognize radio programs that incorporate local talent and tradition while working to improve local well-being through community based cultural preservation and promotion.

Credit is due to Saravanan, a Community Resource Person and Radio Kotagiri radio jockey from the Irula tribe in Kil Kattabettu. Sarvanan records, edits, and produces En Makkaludan Oru Payanam.

The show, which is produced in the Irula language, delves into the traditional art, music, songs, and culture of the Irula in Aracode, and we have produced more than a total 200 episodes.
