Radio Kotagiri recently organized a series of narrowcasting sessions as part of the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVAY) project. This initiative, implemented by the Community Radio Association and supported by the Ministry of Information and Social Justice, aims to raise awareness about government schemes designed for senior citizens. Narrowcasting is a form of disseminating information or media to a specific group of people, rather than a general audience.
In collaboration with the District Social Welfare Department, the program conducted outreach activities in local villages, educating the community on how to access these vital schemes and resources for senior citizens.
A key feature of the campaign was the promotion of the 14567 Elderline Helpline, a critical resource managed by the Tamil Nadu government. This helpline offers personalized assistance and guidance to senior citizens, ensuring they receive the support they need.
Through these efforts, Radio Kotagiri reaffirms its commitment to community welfare, bridging the gap between government initiatives and the people who need them most.
Radio Kotagiri Promotes Climate Awareness Across Panchayats
As part of its ongoing commitment to community development and environmental education, Radio Kotagiri successfully conducted a series of Climate Change Awareness Programs across various panchayats in the region.
The program reached residents in the following panchayats:
- Kengarai Panchayat: Mettukal and Bhaviyur
- Konavakarai Panchayat: Gurukuntha and Attadi
- Kunjapanai Panchayat: Bhaviyur, Araiur, and Sundapatti
- Kadinamala Panchayat: Kopaour
- Denadu Panchayat: Gurukundha
The sessions educated communities about the impacts of climate change and equipped them with practical knowledge to mitigate its effects. Topics included sustainable practices, protecting biodiversity, and disaster preparedness.
A unique highlight of the program was a climate change-themed game, played with both community members and students. Using a specially designed game kit, participants actively engaged in understanding the effects of climate change through interactive and enjoyable activities. The game encouraged critical thinking and fostered greater involvement in the fight against climate challenges.
The enthusiastic participation from these communities underscores the growing awareness and willingness to act on climate-related challenges. Radio Kotagiri remains committed to fostering a resilient and informed society through such impactful initiatives.
