In the month of February, we had identified two springs in Agal and Pudhu Kotagiri that were choked with invasives, barely containing water and waiting to be revived. We kicked off this spring revival initiative by clearing the site of invasives such as Lantana camara, Solanum mauritianum, Bidens pilosa and so on. We then prepared each site by doing a round of cleaning and increasing its water storage capacity.
In order to maintain water quality, we then introduced native plants such as Vasambu, Idicium and Kalvalai that would continuously filter the spring water.
These revived springs now have the opportunity to flourish again and will greatly benefit both the wildlife in the area as well as the residents of either village through a constant supply of fresh spring water.
