Monisha Ravi, Community Wellbeing
The Community Wellbeing team successfully conducted a two-day educational camp at the Public Library, Kotagiri, on 25th and 26th May 2026. Held during the afternoon sessions, the programme brought together more than 30 local students for an engaging learning experience focused on health, hygiene, community building, environmental awareness, and child safety.
Facilitated by Ms. Monisha Ravi, along with the Intern Ms. S.B. Dya Dharshni, the camp was designed to foster meaningful learning through interactive activities, educational resources, discussions, and creative engagement. Over the course of two days, students explored important topics that contribute to their personal well-being and development as responsible members of their communities.
Encouraging Connections Through Interactive Learning:
The first day began with an engaging ice-breaking activity that encouraged students to get to know one another. Participants interviewed their peers about their interests, talents, and hobbies before introducing them to the larger group. This activity helped build confidence, communication skills, and a sense of camaraderie among the students.
Learning the Importance of Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene:
A key focus of the programme was promoting healthy habits through Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) education. Students were provided with specially designed WASH workbooks and guided through lessons on responsible water use, conservation practices, personal hygiene, and sanitation.
To reinforce these concepts beyond the classroom setting, participants also received educational cards highlighting practical “Ways of Healthy Living.” These materials served as simple reminders of everyday actions that contribute to healthier lives and communities.
Music, Nature, and Creative Expression:
The first day concluded with a lively, interactive music session in which students learned “The Ground Song.” Through rhythm and movement, the song conveyed a simple yet powerful message about the importance of nature and our connection to the environment. The activity encouraged children to appreciate the natural world while expressing themselves creatively.
Promoting Environmental Responsibility:
The second day began with educational film screenings that introduced students to environmental issues and sustainable practices. Through short videos and discussions, participants learned about waste segregation, recycling, proper waste management, and the importance of reducing environmental pollution.
The sessions also included basic nutrition awareness, helping children understand the value of healthy food choices and balanced diets in maintaining overall wellbeing.

Creating Awareness on Child Safety and Protection: POCSO:
An important component of the programme focused on child protection and personal safety. Through age-appropriate discussions, students learned about safe and unsafe touch, personal boundaries, and the importance of speaking up when they feel uncomfortable or unsafe.
The facilitators also introduced children to national child helpline services and explained how to use these resources to seek help and support when needed. The session aimed to empower students with knowledge and confidence to protect themselves and support their peers.
Strengthening Community Spirit:
To foster teamwork and a sense of belonging, students came together to learn and sing a community song that emphasized unity, cooperation, and collective responsibility. The activity encouraged participants to reflect on the importance of working together to create supportive and inclusive communities.
Celebrating Learning and Participation:
The programme concluded with a review quiz that revisited the key concepts covered during the two-day camp. Students enthusiastically participated, demonstrating their understanding of topics related to hygiene, environmental conservation, healthy living, and safety.
As a token of appreciation and encouragement, students who actively participated and answered questions correctly were awarded with stationaries. The camp ended on a positive note, with participants expressing enthusiasm and appreciation for the learning experience.
Through a combination of interactive learning, creative activities, and meaningful discussions, the two-day library camp successfully equipped young participants with valuable knowledge and life skills. The programme reinforced Keystone Foundation’s commitment to promoting community wellbeing and empowering children to become informed, healthy, and responsible citizens.
