Our network partner organisations across Central India kicked things off by organising events to celebrate wild foods in their region. This mainly involved the Sabar community – one among the eight Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups in Jharkhand. Traditionally, they have been foraging the land to collect and eat the naturally available food. Wild foods which include plants, fruits and vegetables play an important role in their dietary diversity and nutritional intake.

Our community stewards who are a part of the Using Diversity Project took the initiative to inform and gather community members across five villages spread across the East Singhbhum District, Jharkhand. Many children and women partook in these events. Several interactive activities were carried out to promote awareness and discussion about forests and wild food. Community elders also brought some wild food to the event to show children the different varieties. Tuber and other foods that could be easily prepared were cooked and shared during the events.
