Keystone’s Biodiversity team celebrated World Migration Day on May 13, by conducting an awareness activity in Krishnapudur village, Kotagiri. Attendees were given insight into migration and its importance in the ecosystem. The event saw the participation of 22 students, of which six were girls.

The team led conversations on common birds we often sight, their characteristics, and habitats. The students engaged in the discussions by asking questions like why birds migrate, what the purpose of migration could be and were curious to know about the challenges faced during migration. The impact of the weather and climate change on migration patterns, and the mechanisms birds adopt while trying to acclimatise to different elevations and altitudes were addressed as well. The students were especially entertained by a bird migratory film which was screened.

The students attested to the session being informative and educational for them. These awareness camps are important and conducted regularly, as they help in partnering with the community to preserve and protect wildlife species.
